Abstract

Background: Wound cleansing is one of the important stages in wound management, towards the healing proces.. Wound cleansing is necessary to remove foreign body contamination, either dirt or bacteria, excess exudate, infection, and when there is necrotic tissue so as to form an environment conducive to the healing process. One of the things that need to be considered in wound cleansing is related to solutions and techniques. However, until now there are still differences of opinion regarding the solutions and techniques applied in wound cleansing. Where inaccuracy in this case will result in disruption of the healing process. Objective: To find out the latest wound cleansing solutions and techniques in diabetic foot ulcers. Methods: By searching several published studies through Pubmed, ProQuest, Science Direct, Wiley, and Cochrane Library databases. Selected studies were published from 2010-2020. There are 5 articles that meet the inclusion criteria. Result: The safest solutions used in wound cleansing for all types of wounds including diabetic foot ulcers is NaCL 0.9%, and the technique commonly used was showering with a certain pressure. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the use of solutions and wound cleansing techniques in the past and present. The use of NaCl 0.9% is still the main choice in wound washing because it is safe and non-toxic and does not damage tissues and the technique commonly used, safe and easy to apply is the showering technique.
