So far, Tumpar embroidery and doyo weaving are mostly made for women^s
fashion products. This research wants to show that doyo weaving and tumpar
embroidery can actually be used for men^s fashion products. That^s why we chose
men^s bags to make it easier to market and show the public that men^s bags can
also be made from doyo weaving and tumpar embroidery.
Doyo weaving is a typical weaving made by the Dayak tribe in Kalimantan from
the doyo plant fiber. This plant is often found in the West Kutai district, East
Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. Doyo has been used by the Dayak tribe in
various traditional and daily activities as handicrafts and fashion products. The
use of doyo now is often combined with additional accessories, one of which is
sulam tumpar.
Sulam tumpar is embroidery like in general, the difference is that this
embroidery has an interesting characteristic in terms of its motifs which
characterize the culture of the Dayak tribe in East Kalimantan. The combination
of the use of doyo and sulam tumpar is often used in handicraft products and
fashion products, especially for women.
Doyo weaving and tumpar embroidery are both cultural heritage in the form of
original handicrafts from East Kalimantan province.
