the problem of refugees in Indonesia:
entering Indonesia without official documents so that the cost of living depends on
assistance from UNHCR or local residents and local governments, prohibited from
working, prohibited from owning houses, prohibited from attending formal schools,
living in overcapacity Rudenim so that many set up tents on the sidewalk, not
keeping the location of the residence clean, involved in prostitution
The Indonesian government^s efforts to address the refugee problem:
1. Encourage the UN Security Council to be more active in creating peace in war
conflict areas so as to reduce the number of refugees.
2. Encourage UNHCR to actively undertake diplomacy with third countries not to
reduce the quota for acceptance of refugees according to their initial commitment
as the destination country
3. give punishment for whom breaking the law
I do agree helping displacement people and stateless person as refugee is correct, however it could cause a problem if the state has not prepared the capabilty to handling such problem. Therefore by encouraging UN bodies such as UNHCR and UNSC through our diplomation could reduce the negative impact of refugees.
