Nutritional Education Media, Isi Piringku Berbasis Pangan Lokal, in Helping the Increase of Mothers^ Knowledge in Wonosobo District to Understand the Guideline of Balanced Nutrition

Abstract

The government has tried to accelerate the reduction in the prevalence of stunting children through Isi Piringku program, which is a movement to encourage public awareness, especially mothers, of the importance of regulating patterns and portions of food according to the needs of children. Isi Piringku Program, which has a balanced nutritional message, was designed to raise local wisdom. This study aims to examine the nutritional acceptibility through media of book, Isi Piringku Berbasis Pangan Lokal, to increase the maternal knowledge in understanding the guidelines of balanced nutrition. Study design is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental approach. Study location is in Locus Stunting. Data collection was through interviews using a structured questionnaire. The process of analyzing data was by statistical tests. Knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of mothers of toddlers towards the concept of balanced nutrition and Isi Piringku are generally still lacking. There is an increase in knowledge, which most respondents have sufficient knowledge and good knowledge about the concept of balanced nutrition and Isi Piringku after one month getting counseling from the officers and nutrition counseling media in the book form, Isi Piringku Berbasis Pangan Lokal, both in the treatment and control groups, but an increase in knowledge is higher in the treatment group (p<0.05). The same thing happened with the attitude and practice variables, statistically it is significantly different (p<0.05). Nutrition education along with educative media (nutrition guidelines in the book form, Isi Piringku Berbasis Pangan Lokal, had a better result in increasing the knowledge, attitude and practice of toddler^s mother. The innovation of nutitional promotion by making a prototype of nutritional education media in the form of games is needed to facilitate the understanding and infomation acceptibility about the concept of Balanced Nutrition and Isi Piringku.
