The Effect of Kersen Leaves Decoction on Cholesterol Levels in Adults

Abstract

Background: Hypercholesterolemia is a degenerative disease caused by fatty deposits in blood vessels. Hypercholesterolemia can lead to atherosclesrosis and result in coronary heart disease. One of the non-pharmacological therapies for hypercholesterolemia is cherry leaf decoction. Purpose: to determine the effect of kersen leaf decoction on cholesterol levels in adulthood in Tampirkulon Village, Candimulyo District in 2020. Methods: This type of research was a quasi experimental study with a two group pretest-posttest design with a control group design. The sample used was 34 respondents who were divided into the intervention group and the control group. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Results: Independent T test showed the effect of giving cherry leaf stew on cholesterol levels with a p value of 0.000 (p <0.05). Conclusion: There is an effect of cherry leaf decoction on cholesterol levels in adulthood. Suggestion: Cherry leaf decoction can be used as a non-pharmacological therapy to treat hypercholesterolemia.
